The Lone Tree of Wanaka, Lake Wanaka, New Zealand
Shown here is the Lone Tree of Wanaka (also known as “That Wanaka Tree”), a 70-plus years old willow tree growing in the lake near the shoreline. I took this picture with my iPhone 12 Pro as I was wrapping up my shot of “Moonset over Wanaka, 2023” (which you can purchase as prints here).
The tree is set in a picturesque location with the beautiful mountains and soft early morning light illuminating the lake and surrounding area. I was lucky to be able to capture as well the moonset which can be seen prominently in this picture.
Oh, as an aside, I do think the “Lone Tree” moniker for this tree is a bit misplaced.
